The United States has already imposed substantially higher import tariffs on many products manufactured in Asia, including apparel and outdoor clothing. Since most of SQOOP Outdoor products are manufactured in Asia, these measures have made it significantly more expensive to sell to customers in the U.S. Together with the EU’s new customs rules, this illustrates a broader trend: international trade is becoming increasingly burdened by tariffs, bureaucracy and political protectionism—at the expense of consumers and small businesses.
EU introduces new customs rules and charges that directly affect our Norwegian online store, SQOOP Outdoor. American and European trade policymakers alike can take satisfaction in the fact that the growing web of trade barriers continues to put obstacles in the way of international commerce.
As a result, we have decided to discontinue all export deliveries. effective immediately.
From 1 July 2026, the European Union is introducing new customs rules for goods purchased from online stores outside the EU, including Norway. The previous duty-free threshold for goods valued at up to €150 is abolished and replaced by a fixed customs charge of €3 per product category in each shipment.
For our customers, this means that a single order may incur several customs charges if it contains different types of products. These charges come on top of VAT and any customs clearance fees, making smaller orders from Norwegian online stores significantly more expensive.
We have carefully considered different solutions, but have concluded that the new rules make it both too complicated and too costly to provide the level of customer experience we want to offer our EU customers. We have therefore decided to suspend all deliveries to countries within the European Union until further notice.
We sincerely apologize to all our customers in the EU who are affected by this decision. Should the regulations change, or a practical solution become available that allows us to resume shipping under reasonable conditions, we will of course reconsider.
We would like to thank all our European customers for their trust and support over the years, and we hope to welcome you back in the future.
